SEAN CARDEN
English Speaking Therapist in Berlin

Hello and welcome to my Website!
Finding a Counsellor can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you are currently struggling with things.
I didn't want to complicate things further, so I have tried to keep everything simple; offering an idea of what therapy can be and also sharing a bit about how I work.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me. Also if you would like to have a chat, so that we can get to know a bit more about each other, I offer a 30 minute consultation, free of charge.

About Me
As a qualified counselor, I have over 8 years of experience and am registered with The British Association For Counselling And Psychotherapy ( registered member # 383832 ).
I work 'Integeratively' this means that I combine a few different techniques from different styles of Therapy. Working in this way allows me to tailor sessions to the specific needs of my clients: After all, everyone is different! With this style of Therapy, it can also evolve over time, to match the progress being made. I have always found it to be a very organic process, looking at the person as a whole, rather than focusing on any one specific area or issue.
Guiding my work, is the belief that we are all living our own individual lives. The happiness and sadness that we feel is solely ours, no one else will ever feel this ( we are all unique ), we can however share our lives and experiences with others. As a Counsellor I'm there alongside you, working to understand and explore your world. While there alongside you, I will be genuine and honest, owning my thoughts and feelings when I share them. I will never judge or analyze you.
Testimonials:

“Sean helped me a lot when I was having a tough time. I’d recommend him to anyone who needs support.”
“He is a great listener, very easy to talk to, and engages in sessions with empathy and respect.”

My Approach
I find working in the ‘ here and now’ to be an excellent tool to help clients understand their own process, think of it as working in ‘real-time’. We can spend time exploring the past and also the future, however the key is to bring the thoughts, feelings and emotions back to the present: This helps to raise awareness around triggers and patterns of behavior ( anger, anxiety, addiction etc ).
I find it beneficial to work with descriptions and metaphors, as these are great tools that can be used to better understand what is going on for you. This method works particularly well, as sometimes it can be hard to express certain thoughts or feelings; so rather than searching for something that may have escaped you, we can use a more creative approach to understand your ways of thinking and feeling.
Counseling isn't always about the negative, meaning it's important for us to celebrate the positives! Smiles and happiness are an important part of the Therapeutic relationship. They allow us to explore two different ends of the spectrum, and to see what else is going on in your life ( as nothing is black and white! )
Communication is key, so it is important that we can find a way of sharing that works for you. This means taking the time to check-in and talk about what is working and what we can improve on; Therapy sessions are always guided by you and your best interests.
Lastly, it is important to keep in mind that Counseling can be an emotional roller-coaster; sometimes you will feel better, at other times you may feel bruised and exhausted from it. This is all part of the process. It can be a tough journey but it is one that you have the strength to face, even if at times it all feels too much.
